The Ghana National Council of Private Schools (GNACOPS) has urged government to confront the country’s secondary school boarding policy, describing it as the root cause of recurring crises in the Computerized School Selection and Placement System (CSSPS).
In a press statement signed by National Executive Director Obenfo Nana Kwasi Gyetuah, GNACOPS argued that the subsidization of boarding education has created structural distortions in placement, limiting access and fueling inequities. The Council warned that without decisive reforms, the annual placement challenges will persist.
“Durable solutions lie in expanding quality day secondary education and realigning boarding policies to reflect current realities,” the statement emphasized.
GNACOPS called for a national conversation to rethink the boarding model, proposing that resources be redirected toward strengthening day schools across the country. The Council maintained that such reforms would ease pressure on the CSSPS, broaden access, and ensure fairness in placement outcomes.
The statement comes amid heightened public concern over this year’s placement exercise, which has left many students and parents frustrated. GNACOPS insists that addressing the boarding policy is critical to restoring confidence in Ghana’s education system.
