Finance Minister Dr Cassiel Ato Forson has opened the Fifth Session of the Ghana–China Joint Commission on Economic, Trade and Technical Cooperation, calling for a stronger partnership that prioritises local processing, manufacturing, and job creation.
Dr Forson noted that while China remains Ghana’s largest trading partner, the structure of trade must evolve to deliver greater value. He stressed Ghana’s determination to export more processed cocoa and other value‑added products, while attracting Chinese investment that builds factories, transfers technology, supports local businesses, and trains Ghanaian workers.
China’s Assistant Minister for Commerce, Zhang Li, commended Ghana’s recent economic progress and pledged deeper cooperation, including support for the government’s Big Push Programme.
The session was attended by Deputy Finance Minister Thomas Nyarko Ampem, Chief Director Patrick Nomo, and Director of External Resources Mobilisation Isaac Fraikue. Officials described the meeting as a significant step in advancing bilateral cooperation and aligning economic priorities between the two countries.
