The Director‑General of the Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC), Maj. Gen. Maxwell Obuba Mantey, has encouraged young people struggling with substance abuse to seek professional help early, assuring them that recovery is possible.
Speaking at the National Youth Forum on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, Maj. Gen. Mantey urged the youth to resist peer pressure and avoid experimenting with drugs.
“Try any drug? No. Drugs only destroy your future,” he cautioned.
He called on young people to rally behind NACOC and other stakeholders in the collective effort to address Ghana’s drug problem, stressing that safeguarding the future of the youth requires their active participation.
“If you or someone you know is struggling with substance use, seek help early. Recovery is possible. Your future is worth protecting,” he added.
The NACOC Director‑General’s remarks come amid growing concern over substance abuse among young people, with the Commission intensifying awareness campaigns and interventions nationwide.
