The Tema Regional Police Command has secured the conviction and sentencing of two men for human trafficking and causing harm, reaffirming its commitment to combating organized crime and abuse.
Kingsley Ndifon, 29, and Emmanuel Akong, 25, were arrested on August 20, 2023, at Sebrepor, a suburb of Tema, after a distress call alerted the Afienya District Police Command that individuals were being held against their will. A swift police operation, supported by concerned residents, led to the arrest of the suspects and the rescue of eleven Nigerian nationals confined in the house.
Investigations revealed that the victims had been recruited from Nigeria under the guise of employment opportunities in Ghana. Upon arrival, however, they were forced into cyber‑fraud activities, stripped of their mobile phones and identification cards, and subjected to severe physical abuse. Police recovered sixteen laptops and an iPad from the suspects’ residence. Victims reported being fed only once daily and beaten with laptop cables and machetes whenever they failed to comply.
The accused were arraigned before Circuit Court ‘B’ in Tema, presided over by Her Honour Naomi Adusei Amamiampong Kucuor. They faced charges of conspiracy to commit crime—human trafficking, contrary to Section 23(1) of the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29); human trafficking, contrary to Section 2(2) of the Human Trafficking Act, 2005 (Act 694); and causing harm, contrary to Section 69 of Act 29.
Following trial, both men were found guilty. Ndifon and Akong were each sentenced to 20 years’ imprisonment on the human trafficking charge and 10 years on the charge of causing harm, with the sentences to run concurrently.
ASP Dede Dzakpasu, Head of Public Affairs at the Tema Regional Police Command, emphasized that the Command remains resolute in tackling human trafficking, cyber‑related crimes, and all forms of abuse. She urged the public to report suspected cases promptly to the Police.
