The Minister for Education, Hon. Haruna Iddrisu, has inaugurated the General Assembly of the Ghana Commission for UNESCO at the Ministry of Education’s Conference Room, marking a significant step in strengthening Ghana’s collaboration with the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization.
Addressing members of the newly constituted Assembly, Hon. Iddrisu urged them to harness their expertise to advance the Commission’s work and deepen Ghana’s engagement with UNESCO. He emphasized the importance of collective effort in promoting UNESCO’s objectives and attracting resources and technical assistance to support national development programmes.
The Secretary‑General of the Ghana Commission for UNESCO, Prof. Osman Tahidu Damba, congratulated the members, describing the inauguration as an important milestone in implementing the Ghana Commission for UNESCO Act, 2023 (Act 1104).
Later in the day, Hon. Iddrisu presided over a separate ceremony where he administered the Oath of Secrecy to retired Colonel Peter Nyarko Duodu, the newly appointed Chairman of the Governing Council of the SDA College of Education, Asokore‑Koforidua. The Minister charged him to bring his leadership and experience to bear on the effective governance and development of the College.
The two ceremonies underscore government’s commitment to strengthening educational institutions and enhancing Ghana’s role in international cooperation through UNESCO.
