The People’s National Party (PNP) has declared its support for ongoing demonstrations in defence of democracy and the rule of law, stressing that justice must be applied fairly and without political bias.
In a press statement issued in Accra, the party announced it would join the New Patriotic Party (NPP) demonstration, citing concerns about selective justice and unequal treatment of opposition members. The PNP said democracy cannot thrive if justice is applied selectively or if citizens are intimidated for expressing political opinions.
Chairperson and Leader of the PNP, Janet Asana Nabla, underscored that the defence of democracy is not about protecting any political party but safeguarding the constitutional rights and freedoms of every Ghanaian. “A democracy that applies justice selectively and tolerates unequal treatment risks losing the confidence of the people it exists to serve,” she stated.
The party also expressed concern about the growing intimidation of women who voice political opinions, describing such acts as a threat to democratic participation and equality. It reaffirmed its belief in freedom of expression, equal protection under the law, and the need for impartial justice as the foundation of Ghana’s Republic.
The statement concluded with a call for all citizens to stand firm in defending democratic principles, insisting that the rule of law must remain the bedrock of governance.
