The National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) has released GHS219,838,955.41 to healthcare providers across Ghana, reinforcing its commitment to timely reimbursement under the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS).
The payment, made on July 1, 2026, covers both a backlog of claims from previous years and vetted claims submitted up to May 2026. This latest disbursement brings total claims paid by the Authority this year to nearly GHS1.2 billion.
Distribution of Funds
- Private facilities: GHS98.24 million (44.69%)
- Public facilities: GHS80.86 million (36.78%)
- Mission/faith-based facilities: GHS40.70 million (18.53%)
The NHIA explained that the release is intended to strengthen the financial sustainability of health facilities and ensure uninterrupted delivery of quality healthcare services to NHIS members nationwide.

NHIA Chief Executive, Dr. Victor Asare Bampoe, reaffirmed the Authority’s commitment to timely reimbursements and improved claims processing.
“This payment reinforces our commitment to strengthening the financial sustainability of the health facilities that serve NHIS members every day. We remain focused on ensuring that providers across the country, from our largest hospitals to the smallest CHPS compounds, receive timely and accurate reimbursement for the care they provide,” he stated.
Dr. Bampoe added that the Authority continues to implement measures to reduce payment turnaround times and deepen collaboration with providers, in line with government’s vision of achieving Universal Health Coverage.

The NHIA urged all credentialed providers to submit claims promptly and accurately to facilitate efficient vetting and reimbursement. The Authority emphasized its dedication to sustainable financing, enhanced provider confidence, and improved access to healthcare for all Ghanaians.
