The Northern Regional Police Command has arrested two suspected drug dealers and recovered 170 parcels of dried leaves believed to be Indian hemp during an intelligence‑led operation at Katariga in the Tamale Metropolis.
According to a statement issued by the Public Affairs Unit of the Regional Police Headquarters on Monday, July 27, 2026, the operation was conducted by the Special Operations Team, code‑named Red Maria, as part of sustained efforts to combat drug trafficking in the Region.
The first suspect, 32‑year‑old Godwin Yamegi, was arrested with two parcels of the dried leaves. During interrogation, he named 33‑year‑old Seth Amekuse as his supplier. Police swiftly moved to Amekuse’s residence, where a search uncovered an additional 168 parcels of the suspected narcotic substance.
The exhibits have since been handed over to the Regional Drugs Law Enforcement Unit for further investigation and processing. Both suspects remain in custody assisting police inquiries and will be arraigned before court upon conclusion of investigations.
In a follow‑up statement, Northern Regional Commander DCOP Wisdom Lavoe commended the public for its cooperation and urged residents to continue volunteering credible information on drug‑related and other criminal activities. He reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to ensuring safety and security by relentlessly pursuing individuals engaged in trafficking and distribution of illicit drugs.
