The Youth Employment Agency (YEA) has launched the National Labour Migration Readiness Campaign, a nationwide sensitization initiative aimed at promoting safe and legal migration while discouraging irregular travel abroad.
The campaign, rolled out under YEA’s Labour Exchange Programme, seeks to educate Ghanaians — particularly the youth — on the dangers of illegal migration, including exploitation, human trafficking, and unsafe working conditions.
The launch event brought together key stakeholders and was graced by the Minister for Labour, Jobs and Employment, Dr. Abdul‑Rashid Hassan Pelpuo, and the Minister for Youth Development and Empowerment, Hon. George Opare Addo, Esq. Both reaffirmed government’s commitment to creating decent employment opportunities and ensuring that labour migration is undertaken through secure, regulated channels.
Addressing the media, YEA Chief Executive Officer emphasized the devastating impact of illegal migration on Ghana’s youth and reiterated the Agency’s commitment to providing credible overseas employment opportunities through its Labour Exchange Programme. He stressed that migration must be safe, dignified, and beneficial to both workers and the nation.
The nationwide sensitization roadshow forms part of YEA’s broader efforts to equip prospective migrant workers with the knowledge needed to make informed decisions. The initiative is being implemented in partnership with GIZ, Absa Bank Ghana, the Ghana Immigration Service, and the International Organization for Migration (IOM), reflecting a shared commitment to protecting the future of Ghana’s workforce.
