Parliament has passed the Excise Bill, 2026, introducing new measures to regulate and streamline excise duties across a range of products.
The legislation seeks to modernise Ghana’s excise tax framework, enhance revenue mobilisation, and align domestic tax policy with international best practices. It provides for clearer definitions of excisable goods, revises duty structures, and strengthens compliance mechanisms to ensure transparency in the collection of excise taxes.
Lawmakers emphasised that the bill is expected to improve efficiency in tax administration while safeguarding public health and consumer protection, particularly in relation to alcohol, tobacco, and other regulated products.
The passage of the Excise Bill forms part of government’s broader fiscal reforms aimed at balancing revenue generation with economic growth. The measure now awaits presidential assent to take effect.
