BoG Governor Calls for Digital‑Forward Financial System

The Governor of the Bank of Ghana, Dr. Johnson Pandit Asiama, has urged collective action to build a digital‑forward financial system driven by innovation to enhance the welfare and prosperity of Ghanaians.

Speaking at the Financial Architecture Summit 2026 in Accra, Dr. Asiama stressed that early engagement among regulators, financial institutions, technology providers, and consumers is essential to shaping a resilient ecosystem.

“It also requires institutions themselves to carry their share of the responsibility,” he noted.

The Governor highlighted the Bank’s evolving regulatory philosophy, shifting from traditional institutional supervision to an approach that embraces innovation and ecosystem resilience.

“Our regulatory philosophy is therefore evolving from one that focuses primarily on institutional supervision to one that increasingly considers ecosystem resilience,” Dr. Asiama explained.

He emphasized that supervision must account not only for the condition of individual institutions but also for the dependencies that connect them. This philosophy, he added, has shaped the Bank’s work in three priority areas, which he is expected to outline further during the summit.

The call reflects Ghana’s broader ambition to position its financial system at the forefront of digital transformation, balancing innovation with stability to drive inclusive growth.
