Ministry Orders GDCL to Reverse Staff Suspension After Floods

The Ministry of Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations (MoCDTI) has directed Ghana Digital Centres Limited (GDCL) to immediately reverse its decision to suspend employment contracts of all staff, describing the move as unjustified and insensitive in the wake of recent floods.

GDCL had issued a circular effective July 1, 2026, halting staff contracts pending a comprehensive assessment. The Ministry, however, strongly opposed the directive, instructing management to rescind it and urging employees to disregard the suspension notice.

In a statement released by the Ministry’s Public Relations Unit, officials expressed solidarity with workers affected by the June 29 floods, noting that the Minister had visited the Centre on June 30 to assess damage. GDCL management has been summoned to the Ministry on July 2 for further discussions.

“The Ministry stands firmly with staff during this difficult period and will not allow administrative decisions to compound the hardship caused by the floods,” the statement emphasized.

The intervention underscores government’s oversight role in safeguarding employment rights while ensuring that disaster recovery efforts remain focused on relief and rehabilitation rather than punitive measures.
