Police Arrest Suspect in UCC Student Murder Case

The Ghana Police Service has arrested 39-year-old Michael Mensah in connection with the murder of University of Cape Coast (UCC) student, Innocentia Atsufui Avinu.

According to police reports, Mensah was apprehended on June 15, 2026, at approximately 7:15 p.m. at the Pedu Lorry Station in Cape Coast. The arrest was carried out by the Inspector-General of Police’s Cyber Vetting and Enforcement Team following sustained intelligence-led operations.

Preliminary investigations revealed that on June 11, 2026, at about 6:48 p.m., Mensah — who claims to be a teacher but also works as a driver — picked up the deceased from Ayensu Plaza within the UCC hostel enclave. He allegedly drove her to Hutchland Beach, where she was last seen alive.

Police say investigations are ongoing and have assured the public that further developments will be communicated in due course.

This case has sparked concern among students and residents in Cape Coast, with many calling for heightened security measures around university hostels and public transport hubs.
