The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has officially acclaimed Mr. Baba Ali Yussif as its parliamentary candidate for the upcoming Ayawaso East by-election scheduled for March 3, 2026.
The party announced the decision in a statement issued from its national headquarters in Accra on Monday, following consultations by the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) with key stakeholders aimed at selecting a candidate capable of retaining the seat.
According to the statement, the NEC constituted a Candidate Search Committee chaired by former General Secretary of the party, Mr. John Boadu, to engage stakeholders within the Ayawaso East Constituency and the Greater Accra Region. The committee subsequently recommended Mr. Yussif, who currently serves as the party’s Constituency Secretary, as the most suitable candidate.
The party further explained that the recommendation was endorsed during an expanded Constituency Executive Committee meeting and Delegates Conference held on Sunday, February 8, where delegates unanimously acclaimed Mr. Yussif as the party’s candidate.
The NPP has since urged party members, supporters, and sympathizers to rally behind Mr. Yussif to secure victory in the by-election. The party also appealed to constituents to vote massively for its candidate to ensure effective parliamentary representation and development in the constituency.
