24-Hour Economy Taking Hold as Over 300 Fuel Stations Adopt Shift System – Majority Leader

The Majority Leader in Parliament has disclosed that more than 300 fuel stations across the country are currently operating under the government’s 24-Hour Economy policy, describing the development as evidence that the initiative is beginning to yield results.

According to the Majority Leader, the participating fuel stations have adopted a 1:3:3 shift system, enabling round-the-clock operations and creating additional employment opportunities within the petroleum downstream sector.

He said the increasing number of fuel retail outlets embracing the shift arrangement demonstrates growing confidence in the policy and its potential to expand economic activity beyond traditional working hours.

The 24-Hour Economy programme, a flagship government initiative, seeks to encourage businesses and public institutions to operate continuously through rotating shifts, with the objective of boosting productivity, creating jobs and stimulating economic growth.

The Majority Leader noted that the implementation at fuel stations is helping to extend access to essential services while generating more work opportunities for Ghanaians.

Industry players have identified fuel retailing as one of the sectors well-positioned to benefit from extended operating hours due to the constant demand for petroleum products by motorists, transport operators and businesses.

The government has maintained that the success of the policy will depend largely on private sector participation and the willingness of enterprises to adopt flexible work schedules that support continuous production and service delivery.

With over 300 fuel stations now operating under the shift system, government officials say the early signs indicate that the 24-Hour Economy policy is gradually gaining traction across key sectors of the economy.
