Vehicle Severely Damaged in Late-Night Blaze at University of Ghana

A vehicle sustained extensive damage after a fire erupted late Friday evening near the Sports Stadium on the University of Ghana campus, prompting a swift intervention by the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS).

According to a statement shared on Facebook, the GNFS reported that the Legon Fire Station received an emergency call at precisely 22:17 hours on Friday, 25th July 2025, alerting them to a car ablaze within the university premises.

A fire engine was deployed within sixty seconds of receiving the alert. Upon reaching the scene, firefighters discovered the vehicle completely engulfed in flames, with both the engine bay and cabin consumed by fire.

“The crew responded with precision and urgency,” the GNFS stated.

The fire was successfully contained within four minutes, preventing it from spreading to adjacent structures or posing a threat to pedestrians. Although no casualties were recorded, the car was heavily damaged, with significant sections burned down to a blackened frame.

The origin of the fire is still undetermined, and investigations are underway. The GNFS encouraged the public to report fire incidents immediately and to keep a safe distance from burning vehicles due to the potential for explosions and harmful smoke inhalation.
