Twitter to roll out edit button to users

After years of anticipation, social media giant Twitter announced on Thursday that it is now testing an edit button.

Twitter provides the option to edit tweets within 30 minutes of tweeting via its new Twitter Blue service, however, this is not free as it will cost users US$4.99 per month.

Users often complain about the inability to edit tweets containing inaccuracies or typographical errors. Deleted and unavailable tweets are frequently seen on the Twitter platform as most users usually have to delete tweets as a result of errors.

Concerns of an edit button being abused leading to the loss of original tweets have been addressed by means of adding a 30 minutes timeline, as well as modified tweets marked as edited.

Although the majority of users are happy with the new feature, some argue that Introducing this will see Twitter become like other social media platforms, thereby taking away its uniqueness.

Another new feature announced by the company is the ‘Twitter Circle’ which limits the number of people that can view tweets, as many as 150 people could be added to view a user’s tweet.
