Telecoms companies to start restricting calls of customers this week.

Dr Ken Ashigbey, CEO of Ghana Chamber of Telecommunications in an interview with TV3 says, telecom companies will start restricting calls of customers who have not yet registered their sim cards.

Dr Ken Ashigbey stated that, there’s the need to find a way to separate customers who have their Ghana cards but fail to register their sims from those who are yet  to get their Ghana cards.

” We need to find a way in which we  promte customers who have the Ghana card, who have the ability to register but who are still not doing so to be able to that. And we need to separate them from those who cannot and i’m sure in the coming days we are going to see measures as the minister had said which might include, maybe when you want to make a call you will not be able to make calls for sometime and you will be told to be able to make this call you need to go and register your sim but you can receive calls.”

He also added that, there’s an ongoing engagement between them and the National Communication Authority (NCA) to look at the technical feasibility of all that. Dr Ken  Ashigbey  mentioned that only  about 2,35000 people have registered  and then as at  20th of August only about  5,800 people have registered and these are people who have the Ghana card.

He also said people with Ghana card don’t need the self registration app.

” There are people who have Ghana cards, you don’t need the self registration app to be able to do that if you walk to any of the telcos, you walk to any where you see sim registration being done here, it will take a few minute for the registration to be done and it will be free”. He concluded.
