President Xi Vows Chinese Backing for Ghana’s Sustainable Growth

Chinese President Xi Jinping has assured Ghana of China’s continued support in converting its natural resource wealth into long-term, sustainable development. He also encouraged Ghana to take full advantage of China’s zero-tariff initiative for African nations.

President Xi made these comments during a bilateral meeting with Ghanaian President John Dramani Mahama in Beijing, held alongside the Global Leaders’ Meeting on Women.

The talks coincided with the 65th anniversary of diplomatic ties between China and Ghana and centered on enhancing political and economic collaboration between the two countries.

Reiterating China’s dedication to strengthening its alliance with Ghana, President Xi called for deeper cooperation in key strategic areas.

“China is ready to work with Ghana to promote the upgrading of cooperation in various fields and make greater contributions to building an all-weather China-Africa community with a shared future for the new era,” he stated.

He further highlighted the importance of implementing the resolutions from the 2024 Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC), and encouraged both sides to pursue new ventures in sectors such as mining, energy, infrastructure, agriculture, and fisheries.

President Mahama, in turn, praised China for hosting the Global Leaders’ Meeting on Women, describing it as a testament to China’s global leadership in advancing gender equality and empowering women.

He reaffirmed Ghana’s commitment to the One-China principle and expressed enthusiasm about expanding collaboration in vital areas of development.

“Our partnership with China has always been anchored on mutual respect and shared development goals. We look forward to strengthening this bond for the benefit of our two nations,” President Mahama remarked.

He also underscored Ghana’s dedication to multilateral cooperation and the reform of global governance systems, advocating for equity and justice in international affairs.

The meeting further solidified the enduring bond between Ghana and China, with both leaders expressing optimism about forging a more vibrant and mutually rewarding partnership in the future.
