The 2026 National Science & Maths Quiz (NSMQ) champions, Presbyterian Boys’ Secondary School (PRESEC-Legon), paid a courtesy call on the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa (MP), to present their trophy and share in the national pride of their historic ninth victory.
PRESEC-Legon clinched the Grand Finale title after defeating St. Augustine’s College and debut finalists Accra Academy, cementing their reputation as the most decorated school in NSMQ history.
Delegation and Dignitaries Present
The delegation, led by Assistant Headmistress Mrs. Mercy Amoah, included members of the victorious team, their coaches, and school officials. They were received by Hon. Ablakwa, alongside Deputy Minister James Gyakye Quayson (MP) and Chief Director Ambassador Khadija Iddrisu.
Minister’s Commendation
Hon. Ablakwa lauded the students and their mentors, describing the ninth NSMQ title as “an inherent part of PRESEC-Legon’s DNA.” He urged the champions to carry forward their winning mindset into future endeavours, emphasizing values of hard work, integrity, diligence, and excellence.
He further commended the NSMQ for fostering positive academic rivalry, noting that such competitions help students push intellectual boundaries and cultivate confidence. He stressed that these values are vital not only for personal success but also for national development, citing Ghana’s fight against poverty, corruption, and disease.
The Minister conveyed congratulations from President John Dramani Mahama, underscoring the pride PRESEC’s victory had brought to the nation.
Recognition and Rewards
In recognition of their achievement, Hon. Ablakwa presented the students with MacBook laptops, while their teachers received HP laptops — continuing his tradition of rewarding NSMQ champions and educators.
Ambassador Khadija Iddrisu praised PRESEC’s legacy of producing individuals of global repute, expressing confidence that the students would emerge as future leaders, including in Ghana’s Foreign Service.
School’s Gratitude
Speaking on behalf of the school, Mrs. Amoah expressed gratitude to the Minister for the honour, formally presenting the NSMQ trophy as a symbol of shared national pride.
