Calm has been restored at Nsuaem in the Western Region after irate youth attacked the local police station on Wednesday evening, October 29, 2025. The violent incident prompted swift intervention by police and military reinforcements.
According to a statement issued by the Western Central Regional Police Command, the unrest began when a group of about fifteen men, accompanied by two children aged seven and five, brought a suspect, Sulley Moses, 25, to the Nsuaem Police Station. The group alleged that they had seen the suspect by the roadside near Nivo Filling Station conversing with the children and suspected he was attempting to lure them to an unknown destination.
Police detained the suspect after the children reportedly confirmed that he had forcibly held the hand of one of them as they tried to leave.
News of the suspect’s detention quickly spread, sparking outrage among community members. Within a short time, a mob of about 500 people armed with stones and other offensive weapons besieged the police station, demanding the suspect’s release. The crowd also blocked the Takoradi–Tarkwa highway, set tyres ablaze, and threw stones at the police, damaging vehicles, parts of the station building, and several impounded motorbikes.
Reinforcement teams from the police and military were deployed to disperse the mob and restore order. Three police officers and four civilians sustained injuries and were treated at the Nsuaem Government Hospital. One civilian was later transferred to the Effia Nkwanta Regional Hospital for further treatment.
The suspect, Sulley Moses, has since been transferred to the Tarkwa Regional Police Headquarters for further investigation. Meanwhile, officers stationed at Nsuaem have been relocated for safety, and the police station has been temporarily closed.
Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Beatrice Turkson, Head of the Public Affairs Unit for the Western Central Region, condemned the attack and assured the public that all perpetrators will be identified, arrested, and prosecuted.
“The Western Central Regional Police Command strongly condemns the attack and assures the public that all perpetrators will be identified, arrested, and brought to justice,” the statement emphasized.
