The Upper East Regional Police Command has begun a manhunt for a commercial tricycle rider accused of assaulting a police officer during a routine stop-and-search operation at Garu.
According to a statement issued by the Regional Headquarters in Bolgatanga on October 7, 2025, the incident occurred the previous day along the Garu–Nakpanduri road, where officers and Community Protection Assistants (CPAs) were conducting checks.
Police said the rider defied instructions by riding on the shoulders of the road and bypassing a checkpoint. When directed to stop and park properly for inspection, he allegedly refused and physically attacked the officer.
“The suspect assaulted the officer who was performing his lawful duty,” the statement noted, adding that the Command is determined to track down the individual and ensure he faces the full rigours of the law.
The release, signed by Chief Inspector Abdul-Rahim Sumaila of the Public Affairs Department, assured the public that the police remain committed to maintaining law and order in the region.
Authorities have urged residents to cooperate with law enforcement and provide any information that could lead to the suspect’s arrest.
