Police Arrest Two Over Viral Child Abuse Video in Agona Jamasi

The Ghana Police Service has arrested two suspects in connection with a viral video showing the physical abuse of a young girl at Agona Jamasi in the Ashanti Region.

According to a press release issued by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) on December 16, 2025, the arrests were carried out by the Inspector-General of Police’s Special Cyber Vetting and Enforcement Team following swift investigations into the disturbing footage circulating on social media.

The suspects have been identified as Grace Mensah and Godfred Osei Akoto. Police said Mensah was first arrested at Agona Jamasi after investigators traced the incident to the area. Further operations subsequently led to the arrest of Osei Akoto, who is the man seen in the video assaulting the child.

Preliminary investigations revealed that on December 6, 2025, the 11-year-old victim reportedly went out and failed to return home. During interrogation, Osei Akoto allegedly told police that he had been authorised by the child’s grandmother to assault her.

The victim has since been rescued and is currently safe. Both suspects have been handed over to the Mampong Regional Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) to assist with further investigations and possible prosecution.

The Ghana Police Service reiterated its firm commitment to protecting children and assured the public that it will deal decisively with all forms of abuse.
