The Ashanti South Regional Police Command has arrested three suspects for disrupting the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Constituency Executive Elections at Bidieso in Obuasi.
The suspects — Haruna Iddrisu alias Dole, Osei Boateng alias Nana Osei, and Charles Opoku alias Blackman — stormed the polling station on Sunday, July 12, armed with offensive weapons. Police reports indicate they scattered ballot boxes and threatened election officials and voters, forcing a temporary halt to proceedings.
A reinforcement team quickly intervened, arresting the suspects and retrieving one axe and one cutlass during the operation.
The three were subsequently arraigned before the Bekwai Circuit Court on charges of conspiracy to commit crime, namely rioting with weapons, and rioting with weapons. They pleaded not guilty and were each granted bail of GHS50,000.00 with two justified sureties.
The case has been adjourned to August 10, 2026, while investigations continue. Police say efforts are underway to apprehend other individuals suspected of involvement in the incident.
