Police Arrest Arms Trafficking Suspect in Tema

 The Ghana Police Service has arrested a suspected arms trafficker believed to be a key figure in a syndicate operating in Tema and other parts of the country.

The suspect, whose name is being withheld for now, was apprehended on July 9, 2026 during an intelligence‑led operation. Police say he had supplied one AK‑47 assault rifle (serial number AZ71551999) with a magazine loaded with ten rounds of ammunition, along with a 9mm automatic pistol. The weapons and ammunition were retrieved and retained as evidence.

Authorities confirmed that a total of four weapons have so far been seized in the course of the ongoing operation. These include two AK‑47 assault rifles — with serial numbers BABA405817 and AZ71551999 — and two pistols.

The suspect is currently in custody assisting investigations. Police officials emphasized that efforts are underway to identify and arrest other members of the syndicate, with the ultimate goal of dismantling the illegal arms trafficking network.

The Ghana Police Service reiterated its commitment to safeguarding public safety, stressing that intelligence‑driven operations remain central to curbing the proliferation of illicit weapons across the country.
