Parliamentary Service Signs MOU to Boost Climate Governance

The Parliamentary Service of Ghana has taken a major step toward strengthening climate governance through a new partnership with the African Group of Negotiators Experts Support (AGNES).

The collaboration was formalised this morning with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) designed to enhance Parliament’s capacity in climate-related legislation, oversight, and budgeting.

Delivering opening remarks at the ceremony, the Clerk to Parliament, Ebenezer Ahumah Djietror, underscored the importance of partnerships in equipping lawmakers with the technical expertise needed to effectively address climate change and its far-reaching impacts.

The agreement is expected to provide Parliament with specialized knowledge and tools to better scrutinize climate policies, allocate resources for adaptation and mitigation, and ensure accountability in Ghana’s response to environmental challenges.

This initiative reflects Ghana’s growing commitment to climate action and positions Parliament as a key driver in shaping sustainable policies for the nation’s future.
