Parliamentary Committee Monitors Environmental Practices at Sentuo Oil Refinery

The Committee on Environment, Science and Technology of Parliament today undertook a monitoring visit to the Sentuo Oil Refinery in Tema as part of its oversight mandate on environmental sustainability practices.

Management of the Refinery received the Committee and outlined key safety and environmental measures, including surface and groundwater monitoring systems and advanced flare technology designed to detect spillages and safely decompose harmful gases. These measures, officials explained, are intended to protect surrounding communities and safeguard the environment.

The Committee toured the facility to observe operations and acquire firsthand information on the refinery’s compliance with environmental standards.

Chairman of the Committee, Hon. Addo Frimpong Yaw, expressed satisfaction with the refinery’s commitment to environmental and worker safety. He further encouraged management to deepen collaboration with the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to enhance operational capacity and strengthen sustainability efforts.

The monitoring visit forms part of Parliament’s broader oversight role in ensuring that industrial operations align with national environmental protection policies and international best practices.
