Government’s flagship One Million Coders Programme has registered 141,954 accounts, with 27,782 learners actively participating in training as of August 2, 2026.
Minister for Communications, Digital Technology and Innovations, Samuel Nartey George, disclosed that the initiative has also achieved 5,812 course completions as part of efforts to equip young Ghanaians with the competencies required in the digital economy.
Speaking at the Government Accountability Series at the Jubilee House, Mr. George noted that cybersecurity remains the most sought‑after discipline, drawing 8,570 learners, followed by data analytics, artificial intelligence, and project management.
“Our One Million Coders Programme has become a genuine national movement,” he stated.
He explained that 24,394 learners are pursuing self‑paced modules, while 6,050 others require centre‑based support. Between June 1 and August 15, the programme recorded 11,683 cumulative attendances across 118 reporting centres.
Mr. George further revealed that the Ministry has signed Memoranda of Understanding with 11 universities, including the University of Ghana, KNUST, UENR, GCTU and UCC, to integrate digital certifications into degree and diploma curricula.
He added that government is collaborating with the Ministry of Education and the Ghana Education Service to broaden foundational digital skills training for students aged 13 to 19.
On artificial intelligence, Mr. George announced that Cabinet has approved Ghana’s National Artificial Intelligence Strategy 2025–2035, with 240 civil servants already trained in AI literacy. By December, the Ministry will extend AI capacity‑building to 50 Digital Champions as well as Chief Directors and Directors across the Civil Service, while finalising a National AI Delivery Framework with milestones through to 2035.
