The Minister for Health, Hon. Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, has addressed the press on the nationwide rollout of the #FreePrimaryHealthcare initiative, now operational across 135 districts.
The packages under the programme include screening services, maternal and child health care, basic curative services, and community‑based interventions such as home visits and outreach to schools, workplaces, markets, and communities.
Hon. Akandoh described the initiative as a major step towards advancing President John Dramani Mahama’s vision of moving Ghana from “sick‑care” to comprehensive healthcare, with quality services brought closer to the people.
To support the rollout, government has distributed 24,534 essential medical equipment, over 10,000 motorbikes and tricycles, and 5,000 outreach kits to strengthen healthcare delivery at the primary level.
“Free Primary Healthcare has come to stay. We are on course to achieving Universal Health Coverage,” the Minister affirmed.
The nationwide rollout is expected to enhance frontline health facilities, expand preventive care, and accelerate Ghana’s progress towards equitable and accessible healthcare for all citizens.
