NAIMOS Officer Dies, Four Injured in Obuasi Accident

A deadly accident near the Obuasi Airport in the Ashanti Region has resulted in the death of a member of the National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS) taskforce, with four others left critically injured.

The crash, which occurred on Wednesday, November 19, 2025, happened while the team was engaged in a major anti-galamsey mission aimed at tackling illegal mining activities in the area.

Confirming the incident in a statement on November 19, 2025, Paa Kwesi Schandorf, Media Relations Officer of the Ministry, said: “Tragically, one member of the taskforce has been confirmed dead, while the remaining four sustained serious injuries and are currently receiving medical care.”

The statement further noted: “The Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources regrets to announce that a team of five (5) members of the National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS) was involved in a fatal motor accident today near the Obuasi Airport area.”

The Ministry expressed sorrow over the loss of the NAIMOS officer and pledged support to the bereaved family.

Lands Minister Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah extended his deepest condolences to the relatives of the deceased and offered his sincere wishes for the speedy recovery of the injured personnel.

Authorities have also launched a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the accident.

The statement concluded: “We remain steadfast in our commitment to safeguarding the welfare of all frontline personnel and will ensure they receive the utmost support and care.”
