The Ministry of Health has announced the establishment of an Investigation Committee to examine the circumstances surrounding the death of 29-year-old engineer, Mr. Charles Amissah, who reportedly died after a hit-and-run accident on February 6, 2026. Allegations have surfaced that Mr. Amissah was denied emergency admission and care at three major facilities: Police Hospital, Ridge Hospital, and Korle Bu Teaching Hospital.
The announcement, signed by Chief Director Desmond Boateng on behalf of the Minister, underscores growing public concern about the state of emergency healthcare delivery in Ghana. The committee’s mandate is to uncover the facts of the case and recommend reforms aimed at strengthening emergency care nationwide.
The Ministry has invited healthcare workers, eyewitnesses, civil society organizations, and members of the public to submit written inputs, testimonies, or information about their experiences with emergency healthcare. Contributions must be submitted by March 11, 2026, through the designated email and telephone channels provided in the notice.
“This process is critical to ensuring that emergency care in Ghana is responsive, accessible, and effective,” the statement emphasized.
The tragic death of Mr. Amissah has sparked widespread debate about the readiness of hospitals to provide urgent care, with many citizens calling for accountability and systemic improvements. The committee’s findings are expected to shape future policy and restore public confidence in the nation’s healthcare system.
