The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has presented the first batch of replacement passports to victims of the June 29 floods in Accra, marking a significant relief effort for affected citizens.
The ceremony, held at the Ministry’s premises, was presided over by Chief Director Ambassador Khadija Idrissu on behalf of the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa. She was supported by senior officials including Ambassador Harold Adlai Agyeman, Ambassador Francis Danti Kotia, and Ambassador Alexander Grant Ntrakwa.
Ambassador Idrissu disclosed that following the Ministry’s public announcement on July 3 inviting flood victims to apply for replacements, approximately 500 applications were received. The 100 passports presented represent the first batch, with subsequent distributions to follow after verification. She emphasized that the initiative, provided free of charge, reflects the Government’s commitment to easing the burden on citizens affected by the disaster.
She commended the Minister for his leadership and praised the dedication of staff at the Ministry and the Passport Office for expediting the process. Highlighting Ghana’s values of unity and compassion, she assured applicants awaiting their documents that processing was ongoing and every effort was being made to complete the remaining batches swiftly.
Speaking on behalf of beneficiaries, Mr. Richmond Debrah expressed heartfelt gratitude to the Ministry, noting that the floods had imposed severe hardships, including the loss of essential travel documents. He described the intervention as a timely gesture that restored hope and confidence, while easing financial challenges for victims.
The presentation underscores the Ministry’s commitment to responsive public service delivery and its determination to support citizens during emergencies, ensuring affected Ghanaians regain access to vital travel documents without additional financial burden.
