MALI: Convalescing PM Abdoulaye Maiga, appointed interim prime minister

Minister of Administration and Decentralization since June 2021 and, cumulatively, spokesperson for the Government since December of the same year, Colonel Abdoulaye Maïga, 41, has just been appointed interim Prime Minister.

The appointment recorded by presidential decree broadcast on Sunday August 21, 2022 through Malian national television (ORTM) follows the health problems of Prime Minister Choguel Maïga, who has been recovering for two weeks from a stroke.

A doctor in international relations, Colonel Abdoulaye Maïga is also a specialist in leadership and communication.

This communicative colonel caused a sensation last February when he invited the French Minister of the Armed Forces at the time, Florence Parly, to endorse Alfred de Vigny’s sentence on the greatness of silence.

On the front lines in the denunciation of the Defense agreements with France, Colonel Maiga had again stepped up to the plate, on July 31, 2022, when the French president had mentioned the Malian file during the Bissau-Guinean stage of his African tour.
