Let’s not underrate Angola – Yaw Acheampong to Black Stars

Ex-Black Stars Midfielder Yaw Acheampong has warned Chris Hughton and the team not to underrate the Palancas Negras of Angola ahead of Ghana’s first leg encounter of the 2023 AFCON qualifiers at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi.

The two sides head into the first leg level on points in Group E of the qualifiers.

Speaking to Citi Sports ahead of the first leg clash on March 23, the former Elmina Sharks Head Coach is wary of the threat the Angolans pose.

“Now football every country is rising to the top, so we don’t have to underrate any country, I think we have to go all out”.

“Not like our time when any team we faced back then we were considered favourites ahead of the game.”

“Now we have to be cautious, prepare well, psyche the boys up and well and emerge victorious at the end of the day”

The last time both countries met, the Black Stars of Ghana pipped the Black Antelopes of Angola by a goal in the 2010 AFCON quarterfinal where the Angolans hosted the 27th edition of the biennial football tournament.

In total – both countries have met 6 times, with Ghana winning the larger share of 3, Angola winning 2 and 1 draw between them

Ghana currently sit top of Group E with 4 points, alongside Angola who follow suit with same points- goal difference separating both sides ahead of the double header coming up on March 23 & March 27,2023.
