NDC’s James Agbey to Akufo-Addo: Don’t Rig 2024 Elections

James Agbey, an operative of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has issued a stern warning to the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, cautioning them against any attempts to rig the upcoming 2024 general elections.

Agbey’s warning comes amidst growing concerns about the NPP’s alleged plans to engage in vote-buying and manipulation.

Below is his full statement…

For Immediate Release

Akufo-Addo/Bawumia will end up in a rat hole like Gbagbo if they attempt anything funny on December 7

James Agbey, an operative of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has become aware of a concerted efforts by the Akufo-Addo/Bawumia government to hang on to power unjustifiably after December 7, even as it has become apparently clear that Ghanaians want to chart a new parth with John Mahama presidency.

From an unusually good source, we are being told that the government of President Akufo-Addo is not ready to hand over power after the elections on December 7.

In private and in public, the President is telling his people that Mahama doesn’t deserve another shot at the Presidency.

In fact, President Akufo-Addo has, on several occasions, made the point that he’s not going to hand over power to John Mahama.

Several NPP stalwarts including the party’s flagbearer, Dr Bawumia have repeated the same messenge on several platforms.

I could sense a semblance between what we are gradually getting into and the situation that befell Ivory Coast in 2010 where President Laurent Gbagbo refused to hand over power after he lost the presidential election.

In a statement, he noted that Ghanaians are concerned about the rising cost of living and have decided to vote for the flagbearer of the NDC John Mahama to change their fortunes.

No attempt should be made by the NPP to subvert the will of the people, he said.

“To react to this consistent and on-going mind games by Akufo-Addo, I am sending a strong warning to Akufo-Addo, Bawumia and Matthew Opoku Prempeh to watch their utterances. It is trite that elections are won or lost long before the first ballot is cast, and pretty clearly, the NPP has lost grounds across the entire country. Voters have become disenchanted and tired of the failed Akufo-Addo policies.

Gbagbo’s abhorrent behaviour in a country only scarred by civil war sparked a conflict that threatens the stability of the region and offered a stark warning to the rest of Africa.

Indeed, thousands of people were killed and one million fled their homes in the five months incumbent Laurent Gbagbo lost a presidential election but refused to stand down.

To react to this consistent and on-going mind games by Akufo-Addo, I am sending a strong warning to Akufo-Addo, Bawumia and Matthew Opoku Prempeh to watch their utterances.

It is trite that elections are won or lost long before the first ballot is cast, and pretty clearly, the NPP has lost grounds across the entire country. Voters have become disenchanted and tired of the failed Akufo-Addo policies.

The issues that people are concerned about in Ghana today – the cost of living crisis, the cuts in public services and our public spending, the implications of the dollar rate – these are all issue affecting the ordinary Ghanaian and they are poised to vote the NPP out come December 7.

This situation has made the NPP and the Akufo-Addo government jittery and in the process are engaging in several undemocratic practices.

At this juncture, I James Agbey, an operative of the National Democratic Congress(NDC) would want to put on record that, any attempt by the Akufo-Addo regime to cause mayem during and after the elections will be very disastrous for both Akufo-Addo and Dr Bawumia’s political legacy.

We’re simply not going to sit back and watch while any nation wrecker through their actions plunge our dear nation into chaos.

The same way that Rawlings handed over power to Kuffuor, and Kuffuor to Mills, and Mahama to Akufo-Addo, the nation expect another peaceful transfer of political power from Akufo-Addo to John Mahama after the 2024 elections.

Anything short of that will definitely destroy everything President Akufo-Addo has fought for all his life.

There needs to be a far tougher line against ‘democratic despots’ like Akufo-Addo who is under the impression that they can have their way irrespective of the fact that Ghanaians want the NPP out of power.

Akufo-Addo and Bawumia represent everything that is bad in Ghana politics, and the Ghanaian people must send a clear message to them in this elections.

Any post election violence and chaos must be laid at Akufo-Addo and Bawumia’s feet – And if they want to be smoked out of a rat hole and chased out of town like the former Ivorian President, Laurent Gbagbo, so be it.
