Ghana, UK Strengthen Ties with Trade and Security Talks

Ghana’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has held high-level discussions in London with The Rt Hon Yvette Cooper, Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs of the United Kingdom, aimed at deepening bilateral relations.

The meeting was described as “exceptionally fruitful and substantive,” with both sides reaffirming their commitment to enhancing the historical Ghana-UK partnership. Talks focused on innovative pathways to expand trade, which has already seen a 10% increase, and on creating new markets for businesses in both countries. Special emphasis was placed on incubating opportunities for young entrepreneurs.

Security cooperation and counterterrorism initiatives also featured prominently in the discussions, reflecting shared concerns about global and regional threats.

As part of efforts to sustain momentum, Ghana and the UK will convene a grand investment summit in May under the distinguished patronage of President Mahama. The summit is expected to showcase investment opportunities and consolidate gains in the revitalized relations between the two nations.

Both governments underscored their determination to solidify the strategic alliance, positioning Ghana-UK relations as a model of modern diplomatic and economic cooperation.
