The Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC) has joined the global sporting community to commemorate Olympic Day 2026 under the theme “You Can Do This! Let’s Move.”
Observed annually on June 23, Olympic Day celebrates the birth of the modern Olympic Games and promotes fitness, well-being, and the values of Excellence, Friendship, and Respect. This year’s theme serves as a rallying call for Ghanaians of all ages to embrace active lifestyles and break barriers through physical activity.
In a show of solidarity, the GOC extended its support to the senior national football team, the Black Stars, as they prepared for their FIFA World Cup clash against England. “The Olympic spirit is defined by resilience, determination, and the belief that no hurdle is insurmountable,” said Mr. Richard Akpokavie, President of the GOC. He described the theme as a direct rallying cry for the Black Stars, urging them to fly Ghana’s flag high on the world stage.
While the global Olympic movement marked the occasion, the GOC announced that Ghana’s nationwide physical celebration of Olympic Day will be held later this year. In the meantime, the Committee encouraged citizens to embrace the “Let’s Move” initiative by engaging in simple activities such as walking, running, or short workouts to demonstrate resilience and national pride.
