Ghana and Zambia Seal Comprehensive Partnership with Wide-Ranging Agreements

President John Dramani Mahama’s recent state visit to Zambia has ushered in a new era of cooperation between the two nations, anchored in a Comprehensive Partnership that spans governance, trade, technology, and cultural exchange.

The agreements signed highlight the growing strength of Ghana-Zambia relations, rooted in the historic Nkrumah-Kaunda friendship, and promise tangible benefits for citizens of both countries.

Key Outcomes of the Partnership

  1. Visa-Free Travel
    • Nationals of Ghana and Zambia can now travel visa-free for up to 30 days, boosting tourism, business, and cultural exchange.
  2. Fintech Contracts
    • Ghanaian and Zambian companies secured contracts worth over $50 million, expected to create approximately 8,000 jobs in the short term.
  3. Natural Resource Cooperation
    • Agreements to promote value addition and environmentally friendly practices in resource management.
  4. Defence Cooperation
    • New frameworks to expand collaboration between the armed forces of both nations.
  5. Technical Assistance
    • Ghana will support Zambia in establishing a Minerals Commission and Goldbod.
    • Zambia will assist Ghana in solar energy regulation and advanced seedling production.
  6. Trade Corridors
    • Plans to establish new corridors positioning both nations as hubs for West and Southern African markets.
  7. Certification Standards
    • Agreement to standardize product certification, facilitating smoother trade flows.
  8. Aviation Cooperation
    • A Bilateral Air Services Agreement to enhance aviation ties and establish direct flights.
  9. Cultural Exchange
    • Ghana will host a Fugu and Kente Trade Exhibition in Zambia next month, following strong local interest in Ghanaian traditional attire.
