Shaltoot Media organised a forum to shape conversations around gender equality and equity and address issues related to the subject matter.The forum was held last Saturday, 15 October 2022 at the National Mosque Complex in Accra.
The forum, held on the theme, “Gender Equality and Equity: A case study of the Zongo and Muslim communities, brought together personalities such as Alhaji Rabiu Maude as a main speaker, Executive Director of the Light Foundation, Sheikh Ali Napari, Clinical Psychologist, Dr Hajia Naseeba Tahir-Swallah, and renowned Islamic Scholar, Sheikh Dr Ibrahim Ibn Saana.
Sarki Imran Dikeni, Creative Director at ZaQi Enclothe, Hajia Zaliatu Kassim and Security expert, Irbard Ibrahim among many others also graced the occasion.
The forum had a panel discussion where issues associated with gender Equality and equity such as feminism, love, coexistence and responsibility as well as the role of social media.
One of the panelists on the forum, Sarki Imran Dikeni stressed on the need for the girl child to focus on improving herself in order to contribute to building the home and even fostering development in society.
Dr Hajia Naseeba Tahir also highlighted the fact that gender equality is not an attainable phenomenon especially in the context of Islam. However, women should strive for equity, thus, fighting for the rights due them by Islamic principles.
On the issue of marriage and amorous relationships, she emphasized the role of social media in shaping current trends while young people are preparing for marriage
