Footballer Thomas Partey charged with rape

Ghanaian football star Thomas Partey is facing serious legal accusations in the United Kingdom, where he has been charged with five counts of rape and one count of sexual assault—allegedly involving three women between 2021 and 2022.

The UK’s Metropolitan Police confirmed that the investigation began in February 2022 following an initial report of rape. The charges are broken down as follows: two counts of rape linked to one woman, three counts tied to another, and one sexual assault charge related to a third.

Partey, 32, has denied all allegations through his legal counsel and has expressed readiness to clear his name through the judicial process. His lawyer, Jenny Wiltshire, stated that he has fully cooperated with authorities throughout the investigation and cannot comment further due to the ongoing case.

Det Supt Andy Furphy, who is leading the investigation, said: “Our priority remains providing support to the women who have come forward. “We would ask anyone who has been impacted by this case, or anyone who has information, to speak with our team. You can contact detectives about this investigation by emailing CIT@met.police.uk”

He is expected to appear before the Westminster Magistrates’ Court in London on Tuesday, 5 August.
