Fisheries Minister Sets 2025 Aquaculture Target

The Minister for Fisheries and Aquaculture, Hon. Emelia Arthur, has announced that the Ministry has set a 2025 aquaculture production target of 38,604.32 metric tonnes.

Speaking before Parliament, the Minister explained that the projected increase reflects strengthened strategic planning, rigorous monitoring, and a results-focused operational strategy designed to accelerate growth in the sector.

Hon. Arthur emphasized that ongoing capacity-building initiatives and direct support to fish farmers will provide a solid foundation for achieving the Ministry’s ambitions. She noted that these measures are expected to enhance productivity, improve sustainability, and expand opportunities for stakeholders across the aquaculture value chain.

The announcement underscores government’s commitment to boosting domestic fish production, reducing reliance on imports, and ensuring food security through a vibrant aquaculture industry.
