Fire Outbreak Near Madina Redco Flats Destroys Makeshift Structures

A fierce fire erupted on Sunday, August 3, consuming several makeshift wooden and metal structures near the Madina Redco Flats in Accra.

The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) reported receiving a distress call at 12:36 p.m., prompting an immediate response. The first fire engine from the Madina Fire Station arrived on the scene just four minutes later at 12:40 p.m.

Reinforcements from Legon, Abelemkpe, and the GNFS Headquarters joined the operation, bringing the total number of fire appliances deployed to five.

The blaze caused extensive damage to structures used for both residential and commercial purposes, including utility poles and traders’ goods. Firefighters successfully brought the situation under control by 1:56 p.m.

No casualties were reported. Investigations are currently underway to determine the cause of the fire.
