Education Minister Opens Global Quantum Science Closing Ceremony in Accra

Ghana’s Minister for Education, Hon. Haruna Iddrisu, has officially opened the Global Closing Ceremony of the International Year of Quantum Science and Technology (IYQ2025) in Accra.

In his address, the Minister stressed that science, knowledge, and innovation remain central to human progress. He noted that quantum tools are already being applied in agriculture—enhancing soil and water monitoring and improving climate forecasting—developments that are strengthening food security in Ghana and other countries.

Hon. Iddrisu further highlighted Africa’s growing role in the global scientific frontier, emphasizing that African talent and intellectual contributions are vital to both present and future advances in quantum research and technology.

The two-day event, hosted in partnership with UNESCO and the Ghana Commission for UNESCO, has drawn international scientists, institutions, and partners to deepen collaboration in quantum science. The program features keynote addresses, expert panel discussions, and youth-focused sessions aimed at sustaining momentum in science education, research, and innovation beyond IYQ2025.
