Africa’s transformation must be driven by people, innovation, and openness to new ideas, Minister for Labour, Jobs and Employment, Hon. Dr. Abdul‑Rashid Pelpuo, has said.
Speaking at the opening of the Global Conference on Human Resources Africa at the Kempinski Hotel Gold Coast City in Accra, Dr. Pelpuo urged Human Resource professionals and business leaders to position themselves at the forefront of Africa’s changing world of work.
Delivering remarks on the theme “Leading with Openness: Shaping Africa’s Growth through Technology, Skills and Culture,” the Minister highlighted Africa’s youthful population as a major advantage that must be matched with investment in digital skills, entrepreneurship, vocational training, and lifelong learning.
He stressed the importance of collaboration, innovation, and inclusive access to technology, noting that Africa could unlock greater economic opportunities by creating environments where talent, ideas, and creativity can flourish.
Dr. Pelpuo also pointed to Africa’s rich cultural diversity as a resource for developing globally competitive creative industries and promoting indigenous knowledge through digital platforms.
“The future of work should not be viewed simply as a technological revolution, but as an opportunity to empower people through technology,” he said, challenging HR professionals to lead with vision, serve with integrity, and make sustained investment in people a priority.
Observers at the conference noted that his call reflects a growing consensus that Africa’s competitiveness in the global economy will depend on how effectively it harnesses its human capital alongside technological innovation.
