Central East Police Arrest 33 in Festive Season Crime Swoops

The Central East Regional Police Command has arrested thirty-three suspects in a series of intelligence-led anti-crime swoop operations conducted across multiple communities ahead of the festive season.

The targeted operations, carried out in the early hours of December 16 and 17, covered Kasoa Old Market, Awutu Breku, Gomoa Buduata, Senya Beraku and surrounding areas.

According to the Command, the swoops were part of efforts to clamp down on criminal activities before, during and after the holidays. Some suspects were found in possession of substances suspected to be Indian hemp and quantities of Tramadol. Police also impounded forty-five motorbikes and retrieved one toy gun.

Verification and documentation checks are ongoing for the motorbikes, while the suspects are being screened as part of investigations. Those found culpable will be prosecuted.

The Command has urged the public to observe key safety precautions during the festive period, including:

  • Avoiding large sums of cash
  • Moving in groups, especially at odd hours
  • Wearing crash helmets when riding
  • Avoiding drunk-driving and speeding
  • Steering clear of secluded areas when alone

The Regional Police Command expressed appreciation to stakeholders and residents for their cooperation throughout the year and commended officers for their dedication to effective policing.

It assured the public of its readiness to ensure a crime-free festive season and warned that offenders will be arrested and face the full rigours of the law.
