The Member of Parliament-elect for Ayawaso East, Baba Jamal, will officially take the oath of office on Tuesday, March 10, 2026. The ceremony will be conducted by the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin.
Jamal clinched victory in the Ayawaso East by-election held on March 3, 2026, securing the seat for the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC).
In a Facebook post on Monday, March 9, announcing his swearing-in, Jamal expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve his constituents. He pledged to work hand in hand with the people of Ayawaso East to advance the development of the area. “Indeed, Allah’s ways are perfect. I am deeply humbled by the opportunity to serve, and I look forward to working together with you to build a brighter and greater future for the Ayawaso East Constituency,” he wrote.
The by-election results showed Jamal polling 10,884 votes, defeating his closest rival, Yusif Ali Baba of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), who garnered 4,009 votes. Independent candidate Mohammed Umar Sanda received 1,885 votes, Ibrahim Idrissu managed 43 votes, while Kanor David obtained 104 votes.
In total, 16,928 valid ballots were counted, with 120 rejected, bringing the overall votes cast to 17,048.
The election was held to fill the vacancy created by the passing of the constituency’s former MP, Mahama Naser Toure, in January. With his swearing-in, Baba Jamal will formally assume his seat in Parliament and represent the people of Ayawaso East.
