Abandoned Newborn in Elmina Rescued, Receiving Care

The Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection (MoGCSP) has confirmed that a newborn baby found abandoned near Bronyibima Estate in the Central Region is safe and receiving medical attention.

The baby, believed to be about one day old, is reported to be in stable condition. Officials from the Department of Social Welfare have taken temporary custody to ensure her safety, while the Ghana Police Service continues investigations to identify and locate the mother or close relatives.

In a statement, the Ministry assured the public of the child’s well-being and commended community members who rescued her. It appealed to anyone with information to assist the ongoing investigation and urged parents or guardians facing challenges to seek support through social welfare services rather than resorting to abandonment.

The Ministry emphasized that abandoning a child is a serious violation of their rights and reiterated its commitment to protecting the welfare of all children. It encouraged the public to use the Ministry’s Helpline of Hope toll-free lines for support, guidance, or to report information that may help safeguard vulnerable persons.
