The Ghana Battalion (GHANBATT) 13 serving with the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) has been adjudged the overall best participating team in the “Akwaaba” Games, organised by the Ghana Formed Police Unit (GHAFPU) to officially welcome GHAFPU Rotation 10 into the mission area.

The friendly sporting event brought together contingents from GHANBATT, GHAFPU, the Mongolian Battalion, Vietnam Level 2 Battalion, and the Pakistan Military Engineer Taskforce. Male and female participants competed in a variety of disciplines including volleyball, snooker, table tennis, tug of peace, sack race, and fill-in-the-bottles.

GHANBATT 13 distinguished itself across the competitions, earning recognition as the overall best team. Commanding Officer, Lieutenant Colonel Edmund Tekpetey, commended his troops for their effort, teamwork, and discipline. He urged them to maintain esprit de corps and camaraderie, stressing that unity and cooperation are essential for a successful mission.

The “Akwaaba” Games, beyond fostering healthy competition, served as a platform to strengthen bonds among the multinational contingents working together under UNMISS.
