Lordina Mahama Calls for Global Action to Protect Children at UN Assembly

Ghana’s First Lady, Mrs. Lordina Dramani Mahama, has made an impassioned appeal for global unity and decisive leadership to safeguard the welfare of children across the world.

Speaking at a solemn annual prayer service for peace and children held during the 80th United Nations General Assembly, Mrs. Mahama urged world leaders to prioritise the protection and empowerment of children, especially in the face of growing global uncertainties.

“Through prayer and decisive leadership, we can create a world where every child is protected and empowered to achieve their full potential,” she declared, drawing applause from attendees gathered at the interfaith event.

Mrs. Mahama’s message was deeply rooted in compassion and spiritual conviction. In a heartfelt prayer, she lifted up the needs of vulnerable children, saying:

“Heavenly Father, I lift the needy and orphaned children in Ghana and across the world into your loving care… Provide for their daily needs, including food, shelter, clothing, and education… May these children grow in wisdom, strength, and joy, knowing that you love them.”

Her participation in the prayer service underscores Ghana’s commitment to global peace and child welfare, and reflects the country’s enduring values of empathy, solidarity, and faith.

The First Lady’s remarks have been widely praised by international delegates and civil society organisations, many of whom echoed her call for stronger partnerships to address child poverty, education gaps, and protection challenges.
