The children of the late National Democratic Congress (NDC) Vice Chairman, Samuel Sarpong, were overcome with emotion as they paid a moving tribute to their father during the interdenominational state funeral held on Friday, August 15.

Sarpong, who died in the August 6 military helicopter crash in the Ashanti Region, is survived by five children, four boys and one girl.

The tragic accident claimed the lives of eight people, including Defence Minister Dr. Edward Omane Boamah; Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed, Minister for Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation; former parliamentary candidate for Obuasi East, Samuel Aboagye; and Alhaji Limuna Muniru Mohammed, Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator. The three crew members who perished were Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala, Flying Officer Manin Twum-Ampadu, and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah.

In their heartfelt message, the late Sarpong’s children described him as “more than a father,” calling him their “hero, role model, anchor, friend, and greatest teacher.”

“You lived your life with purpose, dignity, and an unwavering sense of duty, not just to us, but to your community and the nation,” they said, recalling his tireless service, humility, and integrity.
